In January 2012, as a step towards the operationalisation of the co-operation between Jerami Indah Sdn. Bhd. (JISB) and PT. Cipta Visi Sinar Kencana (CVSK), Bandung, Indonesia for the marketing of CVSK’s composter and related range of products, JISB is setting up a composting facility. The acquisition of 1 unit of composter Biophosko RKM 1000 L (as shown in the picture) and other associated equipment from CVSK is in progress.

The equipment will be installed and operated at JISB’s operating location in Kg. Tok Muda, Kapar, Selangor, Malaysia. With the composting facility, JISB be able to convert the abundant raw materials available at its location, including palm plantation and agricultural refuse, cattle and goat feed waste and manure, retail packaging materials and household wastes.

In addition, the installation will serve as a promotional model in the marketing of the equipment.

Through the use of Bhiophosko composter – such as the RKM 1000L model installed at Jerami Indah, rapid decomposition of waste materials can be achieved. One contributing factor is in the use of recommended Green Phoskko activator and Green Phoskko bulking agent. The activator serves to break down the waste materials within just 7 days (for rotary composter) / 12 days (for static composter) while the bulking agent has an ability to raise the composting temperature and improve the porosity of the waste materials. These activator and bulking agent are mixed in the recommended proportions with the waste materials before / as they are placed in the composting barrel / drum.

Mixing the raw compost materials ensures proper aeration and helps prevent overheating of the organic mass and speeds the decomposition. In using the Biophosko Rotary Composter RKM 1000L (installed at Jerami Indah), mixing of the raw compost materials is done by turning the composter using the pedal mechanism incorporated on the unit. It is recommended that the composter be turned for 15 minutes (about 4 rotations of the composter) 4 times a day. For the smaller capacity Biophosko composters, the turning is done by hand using a handle or hand paddle. On the larger capacity composters, the turning is done by a electrical motor.

The decomposed material – compost – that was originally a mixture of plantation waste (green and dried shrubs, leaves and grass), animal feed waste (chopped Napier grass) and cattle manure that had been put through a composting process using the Bhiophosko RKM 1000 L rotary composter. The compost may be further sieved or ground to obtain finer grain consistency.

The compost product processed using the Bhiophosko RKM 1000 L rotary composter at Jerami Indah Sdn. Bhd. Apart of being used for Jerami Indah oil palm plantation, to meet the localised demand (for the time being), the compost is also packed in suitable retail size packs and are on sale at JERAMI shop.
